Studio Headshot Sessions | How to Prepare

Studio Headshot Sessions | How to Prepare

A strong headshot is not about perfection.
It’s about clarity, presence, and intention.

Studio portrait sessions at Jamie Solorio Studio are designed to be focused and intentional. The guidance below is offered to help you arrive prepared and at ease.

1. Fit matters more than style

Well-fitting clothing is one of the most important factors in a successful headshot.

For shirts, jackets, and suits, pay close attention to how garments fit at the shoulders, collar, abdomen and chest. Clothing that is too loose or too tight can require timely on-set adjustments and distract from the final image.

If you’re unsure, bringing one or two well-fitting options is encouraged.

2. Choose clothing that feels natural to you

Select clothing you already feel confident wearing in professional settings. Simple colors, clean lines, and minimal patterns photograph well and keep the focus on your expression.

Avoid bold graphics, logos, or busy textures unless they are central to your brand.

3. Keep styling simple and intentional

Hair and makeup should reflect how you typically present yourself professionally.

Professional hair and makeup are welcome if you prefer a polished look, and can be especially helpful for clients adding a boudoir set to their session. This is entirely optional.

4. Glasses are welcome

If you wear glasses regularly, feel free to bring them. We can test reflections during the session and decide what works best.

5. Rest and hydrate

A good night’s sleep and hydration make a noticeable difference in how you look and feel on camera. Avoid heavy alcohol or overly salty foods the evening before your session if possible.

6. Arrive at your scheduled time

Please plan to arrive at your scheduled appointment time. Specific arrival and parking instructions are provided in advance.

Because the studio is located in a private space, early arrivals are not accommodated.

7. Guidance is provided throughout

You do not need to know how to pose or what to do in front of the camera. Sessions are photographed tethered, allowing you to see images as we work and select your primary portrait together.

Clear direction is provided throughout the sitting.

8. Reference images are optional

If you have a general look or mood in mind, you’re welcome to share one or two reference images after booking. These are used as visual context to understand preferences, not as exact templates, and are reviewed in advance to confirm alignment with the studio’s approach.

If questions come up as your session approaches, you’re welcome to reach out.
The rest will be handled together in studio.
