Listener on the Edge
Jamie Solorio experimental portrait titled “Listener on the Edge,” Featuring model Elevia Ramirez who collaborated on hair, makeup, and bouquet styling. She wore secondhand silk from Redding Fashion Alliance. Florals were gathered with intention from the artist’s suburban permaculture garden.
This image is composed from two long-exposure photographs, each over five minutes, created in-camera using handheld torches and physical movement. To depict the woman “clothed with the sun” from Revelation 12:1, movement of fingers in front of the camera—illuminated by torchlight—create the glowing energy and halo that surrounds the subject. Digital solarization and color treatment were applied in post-production to enhance texture and tone.
““A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” — Holy Bible New International Version ”
The twelve-point cardboard crown represents both the biblical vision and the twelve principles of permaculture—merging spiritual symbolism with ecological ethics. Model Elevia Ramirez collaborated with hair, makeup, and bouquet. She wore secondhand silk, and the background was constructed from hand-painted layers of tissue paper. Florals were gathered from the artist’s suburban permaculture garden prior to the shoot.
The creation process was slow and intentional. Every movement was guided by care and purpose. Creating the sun like flames around Elevia was done while setting intentions and prayers for a paradigm shift. Afterward, the model described the session as spiritual—feeling that, together, we had sent out a message of healing and hope. The work reflects a commitment to low-impact methods, reuse of materials, and the vision of suburban food forests as grounded responses to both environmental and inner repair.
