Now Exhibiting Face Forward: A Gallery

I’m honored to have been selected to exhibit three of my photographic portraits in Face Forward: A Gallery, a group exhibition presented by the Shasta Arts Council. The show is on view from July 11–26, 2025

1313 Market Street
Redding, California

Jamie Solorio is a surrealist photographer based in Redding, California. Her portraits explore ecological consciousness, transformation, and the imperfection of being human. She works with torch-based light painting, long exposures, and a mix of ambient and off-camera lighting. Flora, upcycled materials, and elements from her permaculture garden are integrated into a low-footprint process. In post-production, she typically applies color enhancements and occasionally incorporates digital solarization techniques as part of her evolving visual language.

She draws inspiration from historical artists such as Arcimboldo and contemporary voices like Elizaveta Porodina, particularly those whose works merge symbolism, portraiture, and spiritual inquiry. The subjects in her portraits act as sentinels, confronting, witnessing, and quietly guiding. Her work reflects a personal effort to reduce consumption and wrestles with the dualism between what the Absolute calls us to and what we have been conditioned to chase.

Listener at the Edge $200 16x20 print only

Photographic print on Fine Art Velvet paper. Composed from two images each 5+ minutes light-painted exposures, with digital solarization and color treatment in post.

Inspired by Revelation 12:1, the artist painted the subject in light through intentional hand movements—evoking the verse’s imagery of a woman “clothed with the sun.” The twelve points in the crown symbolically bridge the biblical reference with the twelve principles of permaculture, reimagining care, reverence, and responsibility in a time of overconsumption.

Model, hair, makeup, and bouquet by Elevia Ramirez. Floral elements gathered from Jamie Solorio’s garden.

We Are Watching $100 5x7 matted print

Holga HLT-N photographic print on Fine Art Velvet Paper. Shot with color gels and additional color enhancements in post.

Adorned with USDA Zone 9b flora, the subject highlights our shared responsibility in local environmental stewardship. The white peony collar references the 16th-century portraits of mannerist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who used natural elements to construct human likenesses. The subject’s steady gaze asks: are we spectators, stewards, or silent participants in destruction?

Line of Becoming $100 5x7 matted print

Photographic print on Fine Art Velvet Paper. Shot with color gels and additional color enhancements in post.

A young woman turns her head to meet the viewer with a calm, unwavering gaze. A wire-wrapped egg rests within her floral crown, symbolizing growth and transformation. The pose subtly disrupts conventions of traditional portraiture, creating quiet tension through an intentionally uncomfortable angle of return. Her look feels deliberate, as if checking back on the path we’ve taken. Created with materials from a suburban food forest and friend's garden, the image reflects the imperfect, meditative process of becoming and hope for ecological renewal.
