Boudoir Session Preparation | How to Prepare

Your boudoir session is approaching. This guide will help you prepare thoughtfully, choose what to bring, and arrive ready to enter the atmosphere of the session.

There is no need to know how to pose or arrive with a performance planned. I will guide you throughout the session with posing, expression, movement, hands, and body positioning.

Preparation is primarily about arriving comfortable, bringing useful options, and leaving room for the photography to unfold.

Before Your Session

In the days leading up to your session, focus on simple preparation rather than trying to dramatically change your appearance.

Drink water as you normally would, get rest when possible, and avoid trying unfamiliar beauty or skincare treatments immediately before the session.

Please review the Current Boudoir Setting before choosing your wardrobe. Consider its colors, atmosphere, and textures when deciding what to bring.

You are encouraged to bring several options. We can make final selections in relation to the setting and photographic direction.

Wardrobe & What to Bring

Boudoir wardrobe does not need to mean traditional lingerie.

Fit and movement are often more important than quantity. Bring pieces that allow you to sit, stand, recline, and move comfortably.

Accessories may also be useful, but I recommend bringing a small, considered selection rather than a large collection.

Undergarments Before Your Session

Tight bras, underwear, socks, shapewear, and other fitted garments can leave temporary pressure marks and lines on the skin.

Before your session, wear loose-fitting clothing and undergarments that do not create strong pressure lines whenever practical.

Preparing for the Current Setting

Each boudoir session takes place within the studio's current curated setting.

Before your session, review the Current Boudoir Setting page for photographs and information about the atmosphere, colors, and visual direction of the environment.

Small selection of outfit options. For the best use of time, I recommend up to three looks.

Hair, Makeup & Personal Care

Approach hair and makeup in a way that allows you to recognize yourself in the photographs or not. :)

If you plan any waxing or other skin treatments, allow enough time for temporary redness or irritation to settle before your session. Avoid unfamiliar treatments or products immediately before being photographed.

Nails do not need to be elaborate unless desired by you, but know hands and feet may appear in the photographs.

The Day Before

The day before your session, gather your wardrobe and accessories in one place so you are not making rushed decisions before leaving.

Check garments for visible wrinkles, lint, tags, missing buttons, loose threads, or anything else you would prefer to address before being photographed.

The Morning of Your Session

Give yourself enough time to prepare without rushing.

Wear loose clothing when practical to help minimize temporary marks on the skin.

Eat normally and arrive comfortably nourished and hydrated. However, on that note there is not restroom access.

Arrival at the Studio

Jamie Solorio Studio is a private home studio in Redding, California near Shasta College.

Please arrive at your scheduled session time rather than early, as the studio may still be in preparation before your appointment.

Park in front of the house and walk up the driveway to the red studio door located on the side of the home.

The door will have your name displayed along with a small white STUDIO sign. You may enter through the studio door at your scheduled time. My assistant and I will be inside waiting for you.

Please plan accordingly before arrival, as restroom access is not available during studio sessions.

A resident cat may be present in shared areas of the home. Any relevant allergies should already have been communicated through your studio questionnaire.

Comfort, Privacy & Communication

Boudoir sessions are photographed in a private, darkened studio environment.

The darker environment is both part of my photographic approach and a way of creating a quieter, more comfortable space for the session.

I will guide posing, movement, expression, hands, and body positioning throughout the session. You are always welcome to communicate if something feels physically uncomfortable or if you prefer not to pursue a particular pose or direction.

Your boudoir images are not shared publicly without appropriate permission.

A Final Note

The setting, light, direction, and photography are already waiting for you. Your part is simply to arrive, enter the atmosphere, and allow yourself some room to play.

I am looking forward to creating with you.
